Project: Day 1: Make the tongs you will use on Day 2! This is our 3rd in a series of tong making classes exploring various building styles for different applications. Tongs are foundational to blacksmithing work. “If you can’t hold it, you can’t hit it!” (Thank you Toby Hickman). Bolt jaw tongs have an open configuration that allows you to grip around an already formed end. These incredibly useful tongs will be an essential addition to your basic home smithing kit. On Day 2 we will learn to forge a leaf and use the tongs to make a handy towel bar which will be a beautiful addition to your own home or as a gift (late Mother’s Day, early Father’s Day?).
