C Level: Rounding Hammer (2 day class)–May 3 & 4, 2025

Project: Rounding Hammer. Make your own hammer! There is nothing that says blacksmith more than your very own handmade hammer. A rounding hammer is a great place to start. It’s an all-around tool that you will use every day! We will make a 2.5 lb hammer using 1045 steel and do a heat treat to harden it. We will be using the new hydraulic press to rough form the hammer head and to punch the hole for the handle. We will also be doing team striking (one holds, one strikes) to refine the fit of the eye.

Note: We will be doing some grinding using belt sanders which can be dusty work. We recommend that you bring a dust mask. We will also have them available to purchase at the school for $5 each.

Class Size: 5 students
Class Level: Advanced. Experience required. 14-17 year old students welcome with legal guardian in the class and with instructor pre-approval. Before signing up a minor please call or email in advance so Peter can discuss the skill level needed.

Refund Policy: Eligible refunds will be issued as website credit according to the schedule outlined below. Monetary refunds may also be requested minus a 5% service fee.

Refund schedule: 100% refund with at least 30 days notice, 50% refund with at least 14 days notice. No refund with less than 14 days notice. If class does not fill we reserve the right to cancel and issue a full refund as a website credit.

PLEASE NOTE:

The roll up door will remain open during class to provide plenty of ventilation. There will be lots of fresh air circulation in the shop so please dress in layers for your comfort.
