Project: Build 2 pair of tongs.
Skills Taught: Intermediate hammer skills based on Hofi method, layout & forging to dimension, drawing out, forging a compound taper, material isolation with guillotine tool, punching & drifting holes, slitting vs. slot punching, riveting, use of bending forks, swage block forming
Class Size: 5 students (3 students minimum)
Class Level: Adult (18 yrs & over), Advanced Beginner-Intermediate. This tool making class is geared toward aspiring blacksmiths with their own home smithy. These versatile tongs are based on designs by Uri Hofi. They can be configured to hold stock from 1/4″ up to 1″ (square & round). These designs are well suited to forge with hand hammering in the home shop.

NOTE: This class will involve a lot of hammer work. It is recommended that you build your stamina in advance! And be prepared to have fun! Bring your own lunch and water bottle.

How to Register
Add the class fee to your cart using the menu below and complete the check out process to reserve your spot. The total class fee is $360 (includes materials).

Refund Policy: 100% refund with at least 30 days notice, 50% refund with at least 14 days notice. No refund with less than 14 days notice. If class does not fill we reserve the right to cancel and issue a full refund.

COVID-19 Policy: By signing up for a blacksmithing class you agree to:
1. Maintain an awareness of sanitation and social distancing to the extent possible during class. Hand sanitizer will be provided.
2. Stay home if you have any symptoms of cold or flu.

The roll up door will remain open during class for increased ventilation. There will be lots of fresh air circulation in the shop so please dress in layers for your comfort. You are welcome to wear a mask during class if you wish.

SHOP WEAR & PERSONAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Safety equipment to bring:
Safety glasses (mandatory), also recommended over prescription glasses
Ear protection
Leather gloves (optional)
Leather apron (optional)

Attire
Clothing should be cotton or wool. No synthetics like windbreakers or nylon pants.
Leather shoes.
No loose fitting clothing.
Long hair must be tied back.

Bring your own water bottle.
